Herbal remedies for aging baby boomers

Dietary supplements are defined as products that contains vitamins, minerals, herbs and/or botanicals, and amino acids by the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) of 1994.

The definition of herbs include plants or plant extract which also includes the bark, roots, stems, leaves, seeds, berries, gums and flowers of the plants. All of the above should be said to have specific benefits to humans. This benefit for herbal treatment is not only for immediate healing but should have a long term effect as well.

A well known author of herbal remedies, Frankie Avalon Wolfe, has quoted the following statement. 'Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food.' Some of the more common herbs that we eat every day include cinnamon, pepper, allspice, cloves, paprika, basil, chives, dill, flax and the list could go on.

They are classified in several different ways but it appears the most common is by the way they are used. By this classification, there are four categories. They are medicinal, culinary or cooking, aromatic and ornamental.
